Our Results and Assessment

School attainment results are important as they reflect academic progress and help identify areas for improvement. However, there are many other measures of success for a school, such as children's well-being, extra-curricular achievements, community involvement, and personal growth. These aspects contribute to a well-rounded education and prepare our children for future challenges. We exist to help our young people find their place, feel capable and ultimately flourish in a challenging world.

We are proud of our improving school, where we strive to excel not only in academics but also in fostering a supportive and enriching environment for all students. Our commitment to holistic development ensures that every child can thrive and succeed in various aspects of life.

An Improving School

The below line graphs compare our attainment against local and national averages. Most importantly, they demonstrate continued, increasing attainment, year-on-year in our school.

The Department for Education publishes a wide range of data about our school.

Data - What's The Point?

Data! What is it good for? “To keep track of things” is a common answer but unfortunately it captures a still-too-common view that data is for measuring and tracking, rather than informing and guiding. Only using data to measure and track is like putting a car in drive while navigating with the rear-view mirror. This is not what we want for data at Meadows.

The word ‘data’ is the plural of datum, which in Latin means “something given.”  Data is a tool that when used both strategically and tactically, can give incredible insight, power, and results to students, teachers, and schools. This is what we want for data at Meadows!

It is possible to identify four Levels of Data Use, from relatively simple to increasingly complex: Collect results; Analyse trends; Plan instruction; and Personalise learning. When done effectively, these levels of data use are embedded in a continuous feedback loop in our school. Teachers and Phase Leaders at Meadows are encouraged to use analysed data to best plan future learning in core subjects and personalise the provision and intervention offered to ensure aspiration, growth and flourishment resulting in consistent and ambitious progress of all of our pupil groups.

Assessment Cycles at Meadows

"Assessment is the engine which drives children's learning." ~ John Cowan

Assessment at Meadows is integral to pupils’ progress in learning because it informs teachers’ planning and their implementation of the curriculum both are therefore inextricably linked.  Assessment helps us to evaluate whether our curriculum is fit for purpose and whether our implementation and teaching of the curriculum has been effective.

Useful assessment helps us to identify children who may need additional support or those who require  more appropriate levels of challenge. It helps us to identify gaps in learning for individuals or groups of children or dips or acceleration in children’s usual levels of progress and enables teachers to inform parents and carers about their children’s attainment and progress.

Tracking of pupil attainment and progress, informed by rigorous but meaningful assessment, enables us to ensure that all children can be targeted to achieve their best; it helps us to ensure that pupils with SEND and those who are disadvantaged are given the best opportunities to succeed; it helps us to monitor whole-school performance.

We use three broad types of assessment across the school

  • In-school formative assessment
  • In-school summative assessment
  • National standardised assessments
