Our curriculum is unique and every day is different. The Nursery and Reception environments are organised into areas to link with the seven areas
of development and learning as listed in our Overview and Foundation Stage policy.
Planning reflects all areas of learning and all areas are interlinked and equally as important. We teach thematically and use high quality, engaging stories to
enhance the children’s learning. Our themes include Magical Me, Magic and Mysteries, and All Creatures Great and Small. Reading is at the heart of our
Curriculum so visits such as Shropshire Wildlife have helped us to develop our Curriculum and Reading Gardens.
In the Foundation stage the emphasis is on active learning both indoors and outdoors, with child-initiated learning and adult-led learning taking place
based on observations of the children’s interests and teacher assessments linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. We encourage all children
to access their own resources and equipment for their activities. ‘Risky play’ equipment is also used, such as shovels, hammers and nails to engage
the children. This is carried out under close supervision of adults. A large Dig Pit, Sand Pit, Construction area and outdoor Writing Shed have recently
been developed in our Nursery area.
A range of Maths Skills are also fully embedded in our Curriculum and are closely planned and resourced for. Each area of learning promotes a different
skill to embed, such as subatizing, counting 1:1 (objects), number recognition, stable order and formation of numerals.
We also have a themed number each week.
During the year we visit places of interest, such as Twycross Zoo and Reception enjoy a trip to the theatre.
We go on various local Heritage walks and we also welcome visitors to school, for example, authors and Silly Science workshops.
The Police have also visited to enhance the curriculum. During these visits the children are encouraged to think about what makes
them feel safe at school and outside of school.
We have three rules in Nursery:
To walk inside.
To use out inside voices indoors.
To tidy our toys away after we have finished playing with them.
The children have contributed in developing these rules.
